This competition will be run in accordance with the rules of the EFA where applicable. The Committee may grant exemptions to the rules for special promotional classes.
Official Competitive tests: Riders may enter official competition:
- From the start of the calendar year they turn 12 years of age when riding horses.
- From the start of the calendar year they turn 10 years of age when riding ponies provided they are a Junior financial member of the EA.
If found to be unfinancial they will not be permitted to ride. Closed Unrestricted classes: riders must be either members of the SSHOA or the EA. Only one rider per horse is permitted at any event, except in the case of special promotional competitions such as Freestyle Pas De Deux.
Rider may be changed at any time for any reason, please name the probable substitute to assist with the draw. Horses cannot be changed. Draw position cannot be changed unless with permission of the organizing committee.
Horses are limited to compete at 2 consecutive levels for the EA. FEI horses are limited to 2 consecutive levels plus a Freestyle. No more than 3 tests per horse may be ridden in 1 day.
HORS CONCOURS (Non competitive). Riders wishing to ride HC must declare their intention at the time of entry. HC is permitted for any level below and one level above grading points. NC entries may be placed on the reserve list if oversubscribed. NC status can only be removed after the close of entries at the discretion of the organising committee.
SSHOA junior annual point score. Juniors must be 15 years or under and must not have attained their 16th birthday at the closing date of entries. Young riders must be 21 years or under and must not have attained their 22nd birthday at closing date of entries.
Entry forms will be dated as received. If entries received exceeds the numbers allowed in an event, they will be accepted in order of receipt with a reserve list.
Riders and/or owners whose entries have been accepted, will undertake to indemnify the Committee against all claims, losses, suits and other damages made against or suffered by the Committee by reason of any negligent act or omission on the part of any rider, trainer or attendant whilst he/she is attending, riding, or otherwise handling a horse, and agree that act or omission on the part of such rider or attendant found in any action against the Committee to be negligent, shall be deemed to have been negligent for the purpose of any claim under this indemnity.
Competitors/riders will be required to wear a current EA approved helmet, complying with EA Standards from 1st January 2019 AT ALL TIMES WHEN MOUNTED. Failure to comply with this ruling will result in immediate and automatic disqualification of the horse from the competition.
Veterinary checks: If approached by the Official Vet officer of the day competitors must allow samples to be taken from their horses for drug tests.

Registration cards: EA requires that all horse registration cards must be available on the day of official competition if required. Performances card: horses entered for official competition must have a current card.
Video cameras and equipment must be kept at least 10 metres from any arena, but if possible 15 m. No temporary yards/fences using electric fencing, ropes etc are to be constructed in the float or car park areas.
All riders must present themselves to the GEAR STEWART 10 minutes before entering the arena. Failure to do so may incur elimination. Whips not complying with EA rule will not be allowed past the gear check. Whips must not exceed 1.2 m (4ft) in their entirety.
Dress: coats are optional in hot weather conditions Check with organizers for permission on the day.
Times to be strictly adhered to. Failure to report to the judge at the allotted time will mean automatic elimination.
If copies of tests are required please enclose an additional stamped, self addressed, long envelope for immediate return. Copies of tests are 50c/test.
Callers are allowed, competitors must arrange their own callers. No callers allowed at FEI level.
Parking restrictions must be observed. Cars will NOT be permitted inside the gate unless towing a horse float. This will be strictly enforced.
DOGS are not permitted
Spectators must stay behind the rope barriers.
In the case of a rider with more than 1 horse in 1 event, indicate on the entry form the order in which you wish to ride ie.1_____2____).
A disclaimer form must be sent in with the entry form, otherwise the entry will not be accepted.
Scratchings/withdrawals: A competitor may withdraw any or all of the horses that he/she has entered, subject to the conditions of entry.
A refund may only be made if 5 days notice given or documented proof (ie veterinary or medical certificate) is produced within 24 hours of the completion of the event.
A minimum of at least 50% of the entry fee should be refunded.
REMINDER TO ALL RIDERS:
- The welfare of the horse is paramount.
- Only horses/riders that are taking part in the competition are permitted on the grounds during the event.
