Class Descriptions


Non-Sanctioned Classes
Riders may use one or two hands on the reins or change from one handed to two handed
throughout the performance. This applies to all non-sanctioned classes
Riders may use a horse without the restriction of ownership as defined under the non pro
conditions, this applies to all non-sanctioned classes.
Western attire and Saddlery not compulsory in these non-sanctioned classes however a long-
sleeved shirt and hat or helmet required (no caps). Any legal headgear is allowed.

Any Handed
Open to all competitors, RA or Green Rider
Quite often used as a training class, usually there is no presentation
Can be ridden two handed in any legal Headgear and Western or fender saddle.


Beginner Rider/Beginner Youth
Restricted to riders who have not won more than 3 Reining non-sanctioned events or one
sanctioned, at the beginner of the show year. They remain in Beginner for the show year
regardless of how many wins.


Junior Horse Open and Non-Pro (Horse 5 year and under)
Riders may use one or two hands on the reins or change from one handed to two handed
throughout the performance
No Competition license necessary.


Senior Horse Open and Non-Pro (Horses 6 years and over)
Riders may use one or two hands on the reins or change from one handed to two handed
throughout the performance
No Competition license necessary.
Ladies/Gents
Can be ridden two handed in any legal Headgear and Western or fender saddle.

RA Green Rider Program
● Green Rider L1
● Green Rider L2

Riders must be current members through Reining Australia Green Rider program to compete in
these classes.
All competitors will start as Green Rider Level 1 and remain at that level till the end of the show
year regardless of the number of points they attain throughout the year. Whatever level a rider
starts the year on 1 st August (Level 1 or Level 2) they will remain in till the end of the show year.
To be eligible for the program a competitor needs to be a Non-Pro. Riders may use a horse
without the restriction of ownership as defined under the non pro conditions. Green Rider Level 1 will be run concurrently; competitors can only compete in one level.

Must use patterns 1 – 15. However simple lead changes are allowed.

 

Youth
● Youth 13 & Under
● Youth 14 - 18 years

Youth classes are sanctioned events and should be ridden one handed in a bridle
Require Reining Australia Youth Membership, if a Youth wishes to ride in other sanctioned classes
(Rookie, Limited NP etc.) they will need to fill out Non-Pro declaration.
Youth may use a horse without the restriction of ownership as defined under the non pro
conditions, horse must have a current RA License.

Sanctioned Classes
It is mandatory for all riders to wear appropriate western attire while showing; this would include
a long sleeve shirt and western hat or safety helmet, boots, western saddle, and western bridle.
All classes ridden one handed in a bridle and horse needs a RA license.
Reining Australia eligibility caps are used for Sanctioned events. It is the responsibility of the
owner or rider to be aware of the official earnings of the horse/or rider as recorded by Reining
Australia. Ineligibility List is on the RA Website. Forms and documents

 

Rookie

Rookie Level 1 (Lifetime earnings $200)
Rookie Level 2 (Lifetime earnings $500)
Level 1 and 2 to be run concurrently.
Rookie competitors may use a horse without the restriction of ownership as defined under the
non pro conditions, horse must have a current RA License.
To be ridden one handed in a bridle.

Limited Open (Lifetime earnings $5000
Open to Open and Non pro competitors. To be ridden one handed in a bridle


Limited Non-Pro (Lifetime earnings $3000)
To be ridden one handed in a bridle.


Limited Open and Limited Non-Pro to run concurrently.


Rookie Professional (Lifetime earnings $5000)
To be ridden one handed in a bridle.
Rookie Professional can be run concurrently with Limited or Intermediate classes

Novice Horse Open L1 & L2 (Horse Lifetime earnings $2000)
To be ridden one handed in a bridle.


Novice Horse Non-pro L1 & L2 (Horse Lifetime earnings $5000)
To be ridden one handed in a bridle.


Novice Horse Open and Non-Pro, Level 1 and 2 to be run concurrently.

Prime Time Non-Pro
To be ridden one handed in a bridle.
For persons 50 years and over as of the 1 August start of the show year
This class can be run concurrently with Open and Non-Pro


Intermediate Non-Pro ($4,500 over three year average)
To be ridden one handed in a bridle.


Intermediate Open ($9000 over three-year average)
To be ridden one handed in a bridle.


Non-Pro
To be ridden one handed in a bridle.


Open
To be ridden one handed in a bridle.

Horse Age for Showing
No horse may be shown before its 3-year-old in Reining events that includes showing in
training classes.
