South Burnett Equestrian Group welcomes Liz Coe, EA Coach and Dressage Judge, to Clearview Undercover Arena, 49 Hohnke Rd, Nanango, property of longtime SBEG member Susan Cox.
We are offering coaching sessions of 45 minutes with Liz to SBEG and EA members on Sunday 12th July, and Dressage test protocol sessions of 20 minutes on the Monday 13th July.
Who can come?
Any EA OR SBEG member is welcome to nominate. SBEG membership is only $35 a year (does not include personal accident insurance). EA membership includes personal accident insurance and can be purchased online.
SBEG already subsidises these coaching sessions, as well as offering a further discount of $10 per coaching session to SBEG members, and $20 per coaching session to dual members of SBEG AND EA.
Can I nominate for more than one session?
Yes, SBEG has a maximum effort-requiring limit of 90 minutes per day per horse, in line with current FEI recomendations, inclusive of lungeing, longreining, riding and/or driving time.
As well, horses can be shared between more than one participant, as long as this 90 minute rule is followed.
If you choose to have two coaching sessions on the Sunday, or protocol sessions on the Monday, on the same horse, they cannot follow each other. A break is required between ssessions for the same horse.
What should I do to prepare for a dressage test protocol session?
In a protocol session, usually you choose a test (EA, Club, FEI), photocopy it, learn it, practise it, and perform the test for the protocol judge at the beginning of the session. Then you and the judge talk about it, and you practice a few of the movements to see where you might get better marks.
If you would like the judge to mark it so you can take the written test home to practise and review, please bring a blank copy and have a writer organised.
If you would like two protocol sessions, have two tests ready eg Prep 1 and Prep 2.
What equipment do I need?
SBEG is only interested in safety and horse welfare. The judge or coach makes the final decision. In general, you can use any gear that is in the interests of the horse and rider, eg running martingales, stock saddles, any allowed Para compensating aids, etc.
Tagged helmets are required. Body protectors are encouraged. There are plenty of both to borrow if you ask.
Many coaches will talk with you through your phone. Please bring your phone or earpiece or whatever you are comfortable with. Two ear pieces cannot be used for safety, but bone conduction headsets are fine, as is your phone on speaker. Whatever works for you and the coach/judge.
Where are the sessions and where do you park?
The sessions this time are being held at the private property of Sue and Phil Cox. Please park where you are directed and remove manure to the area designated. Please provide a HHD before mounting your horse. There is an outdoor warmup area for lungeing and riding before your session.
Where can my horse and I stay?
Horses can be accommodated at the Nanango Showgrounds. You can also camp there. However, some locals offer accommodation. Call me for more info.
