Smith Family Stallion Auction
This auction will raise funds for the Smith Family of Young, NSW, following a tragic truck accident which occurred on route to the NCHA Futurity on Saturday 26th May. Trent, his Father Ken, and Nephew Nick were traveling with a full load of 17 horses when the accident occurred just North of Dubbo, NSW. Sadly, Ken passed away at the scene and Nick was air lifted to the hospital. Nine horses were euthanized on site, the remaining 8 are being treated by the Dubbo Equine Hospital.
Ken was a well-known harness racing identity and highly regarded horseman. He was a devoted family man and followed Trent’s cutting career closely and went with him to many shows. Trent always sought Ken’s advice and opinion before all others and whenever asked about his own success proclaimed his father to be his mentor and inspiration.
The accident has left the family with a significant financial burden. While the family is a strong unit, they will need a lot of assistance to recover financially and personally.
This auction has been initiated by the Cutters In Action sub-committee and members of the NCHA to assist the family financially in this time of need. The overwhelming support from the participating stallion owners from several disciplines is a testament to the strength and compassion of our equine community. We thank you all for your support.
