Cross Country Course
Situated on flat land, the cross country course is open and inviting, making it an ideal event to upgrade to the next level. Each grade provides considerable variety of options for the less experienced horses and competitors as well as questions to keep more experienced combinations challenged and focused. Designer Phil Bailey has been working on the course for a number of years and has recently revitalised the course with a fresh new look.

“The Monarto Horse Trials is an icon of SA Eventing, the venue having been originally bought from the State Government in 1970 by the Pony Club Association of SA. I spent much of my formative years in the Pony Club system at Monarto, either at the famous 'May' camp or at a myriad of Pony Club competitions while my Olympic horse, "Sunburst" began his competition career at Monarto. The EFA has staged the Monarto Horse Trials since 1997, and it has formed an important part of the SA Eventing calendar, providing a good standard of course and competition for our upcoming horses and riders. I have competed horses at the Monarto Horse Trials which have progressed on to win the Adelaide International Horse Trials, to represent Australia in Trans-Tasman competition and to be on the Shadow Team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics; a testimony for the important 'training ground' role of this event.”
Wendy Schaeffer

" have been coming to the Monarto Horse Trials since I was 9 years old and still attending Pony Club. It has always been a great Aussie event with a good feel about it. I’m now much older than 9 years old, I’m an Australian Eventing Team member and World Championship team bronze medalist, and I still come to Monarto Horse trials. It is necessary for South Australia to have quality horse trials for us to prepare our future Olympic horses and riders and Monarto is one such event that has become invaluable for South Australia’s Equestrian Community.”
