Class 16: Freestyle Fun! 

What’s Freestyle Fun, you ask? 🐴

We thought we’d mix things up and bring something a little different to our regular Allora Show Equestrian Group Members Day!

Freestyle Fun is your chance to create your very own dressage test. There’s no set test to learn and no caller required — you design the workout and choose how you want to put it together. Each class has a number of required movement types, but you decide where and when you perform them. You’ll have a maximum of 5 minutes in the arena to show the judge what you and your horse can do while staying within the movements permitted for your class. Just like a regular dressage test, each required movement will be scored 0–10, with the judge looking at the quality, accuracy, rhythm, balance and execution of the movement.

For example:

Walk – 20m Circle Right: ____ /10
Transition Walk to Trot: ____ /10
Trot – Change of Rein: ____ /10
Canter – 20m Circle Left: ____ /10

You create the test — the judge awards the marks! The aim isn’t to squeeze as many movements as possible into five minutes. Repeating your favourite movement won't earn you extra marks! Instead, plan a flowing and creative test that plays to your horse’s strengths and shows your combination at its best.

Class 16A – Walk Only

Perfect for combinations wanting to keep things relaxed while showing just how much can be achieved at the walk! Your test can include movements such as 20m circles, changes of rein, medium or working walk, free walk, long and low work, transitions within the walk, curved lines and halts. Design your own pattern, use the arena and show us your best walk work.

Class 16B – Walk & Trot

Time to add a little more! Create your own test using walk and trot movements, including circles, changes of rein, transitions, working trot, lengthened strides and changes of pace. Use the whole arena and design a test that flows while showing off your horse’s best walk and trot work.

Class 16C – Walk, Trot & Canter

For horse and rider combinations competing at Preparatory and Preliminary level. Now you can incorporate all three paces into your freestyle test! Think working walk, trot and canter, 20m circles, changes of rein, walk–trot–canter transitions, lengthened trot strides, free walk and other movements appropriate to Preparatory and Preliminary level. Put them together however you like and show the judge your horse’s strengths!

Class 16D – Advanced Freestyle

For combinations competing at Novice level and above. This is where we want to see some of the fancy stuff! Class 16D is deliberately more challenging and gives riders the opportunity to demonstrate movements appropriate to their current competition level. This could include:

Novice: leg yielding, 10m trot circles, lengthened strides, counter-canter or changes of lead through trot and more demanding transitions.

Elementary: shoulder-in, travers or renvers, medium trot and canter, increased collection, counter-canter and simple changes.

Medium & Above: half-pass, collected work, medium or extended trot and canter, flying changes and other recognised movements appropriate to your current competition level. 

The important part is that a harder movement does not automatically earn a higher mark.  The judge is scoring how well you perform the movement, not simply how difficult the movement is. So choose movements that challenge you and your horse without biting off more than you can chew — then show us how well you can ride them!

How will it be scored?

Each required movement will receive a mark from 0–10, using the familiar dressage-style scoring scale. The judge will consider the quality and accuracy of each movement, along with four overall collective marks for:

• Paces – freedom, regularity and rhythm
• Horse – suppleness, balance, acceptance of the aids and willingness
• Rider – position, seat and effectiveness of the aids
• Freestyle & Presentation – creativity, flow, harmony and use of the arena

Each test has 10 required movement marks plus 4 collective marks, giving a maximum possible score of 140 points. Your final percentage is then calculated just like a normal dressage test: So get creative, play to your horse’s strengths and have some fun with it!

There’s no test to memorise and no prescribed pattern to follow — because this time, you’re writing the test! 🐴

The serious stuff.. 

• Maximum 2 classes per horse over 2 consecutive levels, maximum 2 horses per rider.
• Classes will be split into Junior Primary (Prep to Year 6), Junior Secondary (Years 7 to 12), Senior (18 yrs – 49 yrs) & Masters (50 yrs & over).

• Classes 14 & 15 are for riders on leadline only. Rider may have a different ‘leader’ for each test.

• Presentation will be held at the close of competition after everything is packed away. 
• Copies of the Tests and rules: are available on EA Australia website. www.equestrian.org.au.
• Lead Rein tests will be emailed once nominations for this class are received.
• These classes are run under the EA rules for Dressage that cover both horse equipment and rider apparel.
• Appropiate presentation of horse and rider is required - please no bandages within your dressage test. Tutu's and other dress up costumes are allowed. 
• The draw will be posted on Nominate and emailed to competitors. 
• Every rider is required to nominate for a job and to assist on the day according to the helpers roster. There is no guarantee that you will be allocated the job you request.
• Camping is available and must be booked via Nominate when completing class entries.

• Camping on the grounds $20 powered site includes 1 stable, $15 unpowered. Extra stables & yards $10 per night, must be left clean. Can be booked via Nominate when you do your entries.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1. Nominations are via Nominate only. No late entries will be accepted. No changes to classes will be accepted after entries close.
2. Entrants ride at their own risk and no responsibility will be taken for loss or damage to rider, horse, spectator or equipment.
3. The committee reserves the right to alter an event on the program.
4. The judges decision is final.
5. Stallion Owners: Green stallion disks must be identifiable on both sides of the stallion. Stallions must abide by EA Stallion guidelines. 
6. The organisers reserve the right to accept or reject entries.
7. Entry fees will not be refunded after close of entries, unless a Veterinary or Doctors certificate is produced within 14 days of the event. In the case of cancellation of the event, an administration fee percentage of entries may be retained by the organisers.
8. Supervision of horses is the sole responsibility of the owner/rider and any horse or competitor behaving in a disruptive or dangerous manner may be eliminated and asked to leave the venue.
9. No horses are permitted to warm up inside the dressage arenas, even prior to the commencement of the competition.
10. No horses are to be tied up inside the competition arena.
11. No lunging of horses inside the competition arena at any time. 
12. No horses are to be led around inside the competition arena. No horses that are not nominated to compete are to be riding in the competition arena.
13. As per the EA rules all helmets from 1 July 2022 must have a yellow (or green) tag- no tag no ride.
14. Horses must have a bridle number visible in order to compete in dressage.
