The Mentored Obstacles Session is conducted in small groups of 4 or 5 riders. Groups are rotated through a variety of Working Equitation Obstacles.
The Arena Session With Mark & Mykel focuses on Groundwork & Dressage (existing members only who have previously attended at least 1 MPD at Somersby Paddock).
The Groundwork/ridden work session with Mark teaches riders how to develop control of each of the 4 sections of the horse - the head & neck, shoulders, ribcage and hindquarters. Riders benefit from having a good understanding of applying their aids to have their horse respond. Individual exercises are combined to have horses & riders increase refinement. Mark's sessions are designed to be progressive, with combinations benefiting by attending several sessions throughout the year.
The Dressage Session with Mykel will aim to help riders develop such things as a good sense of geometry and accuracy for Dressage tests, as well as lateral movements for obstacle execution. As the groups are small, they can be adapted slightly to individual rider ability.
Come & Try Sessions - Obstacles. This class is offered as a "One Of" for people to see what Working Equitation is & what it involves. It can be daunting for some horses who have not been exposed to obstacles before, so we try to keep it low-key for them. Participants are mentored by exoperienced club members to ensure both rider & horse get the most out of the day.
Participants, like all other member groups, are expected to assist in setup as well as packaway, and are most welcome to stay & chat with other members about their WE experiences at our friendly BBQ at the conclusion of pack up.
There are strictly limited spots for these Arena sessions. To ensure all members have an opportunity to participate, priority will be given to riders who have not attended the most recent session.

Working Equitation is comprised of four phases, including working dressage, ease of handling with obstacles, speed obstacles and cattle handling. It is a great sport steeped in history as the goal is to preserve and carry on the cultural traditions of each country and their horses. This discipline is based on horses working on stations and in the field. WEQ H2H is affiliated with Working Equitation Down Under Inc. and use their Rulebook and supporting document. These rules have been developed with Australian working horse traditions in mind whilst working in the Internationally recognised framework of Working Equitation.
