WHAT IS PROTOCOL?
Protocol riding involves riding a test as you would at a competition then discussing it with the judge immediately after. The judge will advise ways in which you could improve the test. This isn’t coaching your riding but rather showing how to ride the movements and shapes, and where you can improve your marks in the test with accuracy. You can work on these movements with the judge and ride it again to see the improvement. Great way to practice your tests or try a new level for the first time. You have 30 minutes with the judge to ride your test, receive feedback and then can reattempt all or parts of the test as appropriate.
It is a wonderful opportunity to get feedback and is often useful if you are looking to move up a grade.
Dress Code for Protocol
- Neat and Tidy – light coloured Jodhpurs and polo shirt, riding boots (short or long), gloves and EA tagged & approved helmet.
- No plaiting required but you are welcome to plait for practice.
This is a new trial for WDA and we hope that you enjoy the opportunity to bring your horse to an event for experience whilst learning valuable information from the Judge. We do hope that you support this venture, if it is received well, we will run more of them at future events.
Thanks for your support and see you on the 2nd Dec.
Good luck and happy riding from everyone at the WDA Committee.
