Bungendore Riding Club Derby Day Competition

Closed/Restricted Adult Riding Club event for BRC Members & EA 18 years+

Sunday 14 September 2025 @ Bungendore Showgrounds

Jumping Derby: A short show jump course, followed immediately by a short cross country course; jumping heights are:

30 cm (Class 1 - Fairy Wrens),

45 cm (Class 2 - Kookaburras) and

60 cm (Class 3 - King Parrots)

(Each horse may only jump ONE round)

Dressage Derby: BRC Dressage Derby Test 2025: Choose either the Magpies Dressage Derby (walk and trot only) or the Lyrebirds Dressage Derby (walk, trot and canter). Both tests include obstacles in the dressage arena such as a slalom serpentine, ringing a bell and picking up a cup.

Canteen available on the day, operated by Bungendore Pony Club..

Horses may only be ridden in one Jumping Derby round. They may do one Dressage Derby test (or two, if they are not jumping).

  • Riders may bring one horse only.
  • The Jumping Derby Test consists of a short Showjump course of approximately six jumps. Riders then proceed immediately to jump a short Cross Country round of approximately ten obstacles.
  • The Jumping Derby will be judged as per EA eventing rules for both the show jump and cross country components:
      • The timing of the Jumping Derby will commence when a rider passes through the start flags of the show jump round, and will finish when the rider passes through the finish flags at the end of the cross country course.
      • Optimum time for the Jumping Derby will be calculated based on a speed of 300 mpm, and time penalties accrue at 0.4 per commenced second over optimum time.
      • In the cross country phase you may miss an obstacle, but will accrue 100 penalties
  • To enable us to run this event we require plenty of helpers. You will be asked to select your preferred task, and we will try to accommodate your preference. Please note that this will NOT interfere with your competition time. If we need you to provide help on the day it will either be before your riding time starts, or after it has finished, with plenty of opportunity for you to prepare or settle your horse. Cross country jump judging is a great way to see the action close up.
  • Ribbons will be awarded to 8th place for the Jumping Derby competition and for the Magpies and Lyrebirds Dressage Derby competitions. Medallions will be awarded for the rider who is closest to the Optimum Time in the Jumping Derby.
  • Sashes will be awarded to 8th place for the overall Derby winners for the Fairy Wrens, Kookaburras and King Parrots classes based on the lowest total penalties overall (regardless of which dressage test you choose to do). Penalties are calculated as follows:
      • Dressage penalties are calculated by subtracting the percentage score from 100
      • Each rider’s penalties are calculated by adding their dressage, show jump and cross country penalties together
      • In the case of equal penalties there will be a countback to the lowest dressage penalties first, followed by the lowest show jump penalties, and finally by the rider who is closest to Optimum Time.
