DO I HAVE TO HAVE A BACK STEPPER?
No. You can go without a back stepper if -
- 1. Your singles pony is under 120cm, and you have a two-wheeled carriage, or
- 2. Your singles pony is under 108cm, and you have a four-wheeled carriage, or
- 3. You are long reining.
Even if you do not need a back stepper on the carriage, you must have an on-ground groom who always watches you while you are driving.
Everyone else must have one back stepper (at least 14 years old), or two on a four-in-hand. Drivers under 18 must have a competent adult back stepper.
CAN I HAVE A CALLER?
Yes, your back stepper or on-ground groom may discreetly tell the driver where to go, in any class.
WHAT DO THE DRIVERS AND BACK STEPPERS WEAR?
EA tagged helmets are compulsory for all on the carriage. Tagger on Site if required. Body protectors are compulsory for all Disability Drivers and junior Drivers or back steppers under 18 years old & obstacle driving. Spare body protectors available. Aprons are not required. Neat, sun safe clothing is all you need. Shorts are not permitted. Not wearing gloves carries penalties. Whips must be on the carriage but do not need to be in the hand.
WHAT SORT OF CARRIAGE DO I NEED?
Any safe, well-maintained carriage whose axle width is at least 125cm is fine.
Refunds: Will be made providing the organising body is advised of the scratching before the commencement of the event and a written request including a vet or doctors certificate is sent to the organising committee within a week of the event. A 10% administration fee may be retained by the organising committee to cover administration costs.
PLEASE NOTE, we will have spare helmets, body protectors and other equipment for loan on the day. Please check with us if you have any questions or need something you don't currently have.
