Food and drinks available for purchase at the canteen.

Camping available Saturday night $10 per vehicle.

*All competitors must sign in, hand in their Horse Health Declarations and Waivers and collect their back numbers before 8.45 am.

Yards: There are a limited number of yards available which can be booked when you complete your entry. If all yards are booked when you are completing your entry, please email [email protected] to be placed on a waiting list.

Stallions: In accordance with the ATHRA Code of Conduct, a stallion shall be clearly identified with a blue ribbon on his head gear and his tail, so it is clearly recognized as a stallion front and rear. If you intend to bring a stallion to a Points Day and require a yard, please contact the Ranch Committee at [email protected] before completing your entry on Nominate.

POINTS DAY GENERAL RULES

  • These rules are based on the Ranch Horse Association of Australia rule book.
  • This rule book should be referred to for detailed descriptions of classes and tack and attire requirements.
  • One horse and rider combination must not be entered in more than one division. The same rider may enter a different horse in another division e.g. a young horse in Green Horse and an educated horse in Open.
  • Competitors can access their Judge’s Score Sheets after an event by contacting the Official Points Scorer/ Club Secretary/ Ranch Subcommittee.
  • No horse under 3 years of age may be exhibited under saddle.
  • All riders 18 years of age and under must wear a safety helmet with the chin strap fastened whilst seated on a horse on the Club grounds whether competing or not.
  • Youth are not allowed to ride or handle stallions.
  • No horse under 3 years of age may be exhibited.
  • No hoof polish/black
  • No braided or banded manes/tails or tail extensions.
  • Trimming inside ears is discouraged. Trimming bridle path is allowed, also trimming of fetlocks or excessive (long) facial hair.
  • Equipment with silver should not count over a good working outfit. Silver on bridles and saddles is discouraged.
  • Exhibitors can change from 2 handed to 1 handed to hold the saddle horn and holding the saddle horn with either hand will not be penalised in any class.
  • Posting or standing in stirrups at extended trot is acceptable.

Attire

Mandatory

  • Long sleeve collared shirt (half or full button or zipper)
  • Western hat or ASS approved safety helmet.
  • Western pants/jeans
  • Western boots.

Optional

  • Spurs, chinks, and chaps in ridden classes

Prohibited Equipment

  • Martingales
  • Draw reins
  • Nosebands and tie−downs
  • Chain, wire, or metal tie−down or bonnets are prohibited, regardless of how padded or wrapped
  • Training tack collars
  • Jerk lines for roping
  • English spurs
  • Twisted mouthpieces
  • Whips
  • Covers on saddles
  • Any curb strap narrower than 12.5mm
  • Braided rawhide balls across the horse’s nose are not permissible.
  • Choke ropes, tie downs, wire around the horse’s neck, nose, or brow band, tight nose band, quirt, bat or mechanical device giving the rider undue control
  • over a horse will not be permitted in the arena.
  • Twisted wire bits are not permitted in any event.
  • Bitless bridles
  • Wire of any kind and on any part of the curb device is not permissible.
  • Absolutely no rigid material will be permitted under the jaws, regardless of how padded or covered.

DIVISION ELIGIBILITY

A Professional Rider has, in the previous three years from the date of competing, received remuneration or compensation for showing or training any horse, or instructing any other person in riding or exhibiting.

 

Lead Line

  • This Division is for riders from 2 to 12 years of age who are not confident to ride unassisted.
  • Riders will be required to show their horses at the walk and trot only.
  • Horses must be led by a competent person over 16 years of age.
  • No rider entering this division can enter any other Division.
  • Any safe saddle can be used including English, Western, stock, or fender. Bareback pads are not permitted.

 

Green Youth

  • This division is for beginner riders between 7 and 18 years of age.
  • Riders will be required to show their horses at the walk and trot only and not required to lope.
  • Green youth are not eligible to compete in any other division.
  • Green youth are not eligible to compete in Ranch Reining.
  • Any age horse can be ridden two handed in a snaffle bit or bosal. Curb bits are not permitted.
  • Any safe saddle can be used including English, Western, stock, or fender. Bareback pads are not permitted.

Intermediate Youth

  • This division is for riders with a moderate level of riding ability between 7 and 18 years of age.
  • Riders will be required to show their horses at the walk, trot, and lope.
  • Any age horse can be ridden two handed in a snaffle bit or bosal. Curb bits are not permitted.
  • Any safe saddle can be used including English, Western, stock, or fender. Bareback pads are not permitted.

Open Youth

  • This division is for experience riders between 7 and 18 years of age.
  • Riders will be required to show their horses at the walk, trot, and lope.
  • Western saddles compulsory.
  • Horses 3 to 5 years may be shown in a Snaffle bit, Hackamore, curb bit, half−breed or spade bit.
  • Horses 6 years and over can only be shown in a curb bit, half−breed, romal, spade bit or two rein.

Green Rider

  • This division is for beginner riders over 18 years of age.
  • Riders will be required to show their horses at the walk and trot only and not required to lope.
  • Green riders are ineligible to compete in any other division.
  • Green riders are not eligible to compete in Ranch Reining.
  • Any age horse can be ridden two handed in a snaffle bit or bosal. Curb bits are not permitted.
  • Any safe saddle can be used including English, Western, stock, or fender. Bareback pads are not permitted.

Intermediate Rider

  • This division is for non−professional riders with a moderate level of riding ability. Professional riders are not eligible for this Division.
  • Riders will be required to show their horses at the walk, trot, and lope.
  • Any age horse may be ridden one or two handed in any legal headgear.
  • Riders must not swap from one to two hands or vice versa during a class if riding in a curb bit.
  • Any safe saddle can be used including English, Western, stock, or fender. Bareback pads are not permitted.

Green Horse

  • This division is for horses of all ages with a basic level of education.
  • Both professional and non-professional riders are eligible to ride in this division.
  • Horses will be required to show at the walk, trot, and lope.
  • Any age horse may be ridden one or two handed in any legal headgear.
  • Riders must not swap from one to two hands or vice versa during a class if riding in a curb bit.
  • Any safe saddle can be used including English, Western, stock, or fender. Bareback pads are not permitted.

Intermediate Horse

  • This division is for horses with moderate level of education.
  • Both professional and non−professional riders are eligible to ride in this division.
  • Riders will be required to show their horses at the walk, trot, and lope.
  • Any age horse may be ridden one or two handed in any legal headgear.
  • Riders must not swap from one to two hands or vice versa during a class if riding in a curb bit.

Australian Heritage Snaffle Bit (AHSB)

  • This division is for experienced riders and well educated horses.
  • Both professional and non−professional riders are eligible to ride in this division.
  • Horses MUST be ridden two handed in a snaffle bit regardless of their age.
  • Horses can only be ridden in a fender or stock saddle.

Open

  • This division is for experienced riders and horses.
  • Both professional and non−professional riders are eligible to ride in this division.
  • Horses can only be ridden in a Western saddle.
  • Horses 3 to 5 years may be shown in a Snaffle bit, Hackamore, curb bit, half−breed or spade bit.
  • Horses 6 years and over can only be shown in a curb bit, half−breed, romal, spade bit or two rein

  • In order to be eligible for End of Year High Point Awards, a horse and rider combination must compete at a minimum of two Points Days per calendar year.
  • In the event of a tie for a High Point Award, the tie will be broken by a count back of the greatest number of first place ribbons, then the greatest number of second place ribbons etc.

Scoring

  • Except for the Conformation class, each exhibitor is scored between 0-100 points and automatically begins run with a score of 70 points.
  • The exhibitor is scored on the quality of each manoeuvre with -1 ½ extremely poor, -1 very poor, - ½ poor, 0 correct, + ½ Good, +1 very good, +1 ½ excellent
  • Pluses and minuses reflect the smoothness, finesse, attitude, quickness, and authority of the exhibitor when performing the various manoeuvres.
  • Penalties may be accrued for incorrect manoeuvre execution.
