Explanation: The SRD Tests are designed to provide a pathway to help less experienced riders develop the skills needed

to move on to higher level tests. They are inspired by the British Dressage levels where riders have the option to rise

or sit in the trot in Elementary Tests, Medium Level Tests do not include flying changes, in British Dressage, flying

changes are introduced at the next level - Open Medium Level.  The tests are designed to encourage riders to focus more

on the quality of their work & less on accuracy.

  26. Postponement or cancellation of events – although it is unlikely, under certain circumstances it may be deemed necessary to postpone or cancel part of, or all of, one or more events on a day or days for reasons of health & safety (eg extreme weather or a bio-security issue).  On such occasions, to defray costs, the OC may choose not to refund entry fees. Insuring against postponement or cancellation is expensive, & SRD do not believe they can justify charging higher entry fees to cover insurance against such remote possibilities. Examples of situations where postponement or cancellation could occur would be extreme weather forecasts by the Bureau of Meteorology such as gale force winds or lightning, or an outbreak of disease such as Equine Influenza or Hendra Virus. The decision to postpone or cancel would be taken by the OC in consultation with the President of the Ground Jury.
  27. Riders and/or owners whose entries have been accepted, undertake to indemnify the Committee against all claims, losses, suits, and damages made against or suffered by the Committee by reason of any negligent act or omission on the part of any riders, trainers or attendants whilst they are attending, riding or otherwise handling a horse, and agree that any act or omission on the part of such riders or attendants found in any action against the Committee to be negligent, shall be deemed to have been negligent for the purpose of any claim under this indemnity. By attending, riders & other attendees acknowledge acceptance & understanding that they participate in this event at their own risk. Neither Swan River Dressage Incorporated, nor the OC or their appointed officials accept any liability for any accident, theft or illness to horses, riders, grooms or any person or property whatsoever.
  28. No float yards – owing to limited parking space for floats & trucks, float yards may not be erected during this event. Please note permanent yards are available at SVEP.
  29. Lungeing - may only be carried out in the round yard designated for lungeing at the event. The lungeing of a rider mounted in the saddle is not permitted anywhere at an event (Rule 2.13f)
  30. Dogs – must be controlled on leashes at all times.
  31. Catering – food and drinks will be available for purchase from the commencement of competition.
  32. Waiting List – the OC will endeavour to accommodate entries on the Waiting List. You will be contacted & invoiced if an appropriate early space becomes available before publication of a draw. Our OC is small & each member carries out many jobs before each event. To protect the sanity of the people creating the draw, the OC has decided that any person who ‘spams’ the OC with messages of any kind about the Waiting List will be moved to the bottom of the Waiting List.
  33. Breaches of EA Codes of Conduct - any rider, groom or spectator who breaches any EA Code of Conduct at a SRD dressage event may be banned, along with their connections, from SRD dressage events.
  34. Entering the arena, warm up & warm down at Swan River Dressage events

Organising Committees (OCs) often need to create warm up rules to suit the particular characteristics of a venue, and events at Swan Valley Equestrian Park (SVEP) run by SRD are no exception. The OC for Swan River Dressage has created the following rules for Swan River Dressage events. These have been sanctioned by the Technical Delegate for the event.

  1. Commencing the test from inside the competition arena

The EA Dressage Rules (3.7 a) state ‘where it is not practical (as at SVEP) to ride around the outside of the arena prior to entering, the rider is permitted to enter the arena as soon as the previous rider has exited and before the bell is sounded. After the bell is sounded, the new rider starts the test from within the arena’ by riding down the centre line from A.

  1. Safety

Horse and rider safety is of paramount importance, so any rider who warms up in the ‘back’ warm up behind the SVEP Clubhouse may choose to dismount and lead their horse on foot from the ‘back’ warm up area. Riders may choose to lead their horse on foot through the gates into the fenced river sand space outside the competition arenas, before mounting to be gear checked.

  1. Minimum FEI warm up of 30 minutes on river sand at SVEP

We understand how important it is for FEI horses to have a consistent riding surface for their warm up & their test. To encourage FEI riders to keep supporting our events, our draws have always provided each FEI horse with a minimum of a 30 minute warm up on the river sand surface in front of the SVEP Clubhouse. Ordinarily, this will be in the arena adjacent to the FEI competition arena.

In a rare situation where circumstances preclude this 30 minute FEI warm up on river sand, a steward will consult the TD.

  1. FEI warm down

FEI horses may warm down for 10 minutes in the river sand warm up arena provided there are no horses warming up for a test. If the arena has horses warming up, FEI horses and riders may warm down at the A end on the river sand between the fence & the outside of the FEI warm up arena. If they wish to use the shade to warm down rather than warm down in the warm up arena, they may elect to use this same space (ie between the fence & the outside of the FEI warm up arena) for their warm down.
